 Hello everyone!
You might have been redirected here from the official GGJ site, which is good!
We are the Global Game Jam's official Los Angeles location. MEGA is a student group here at USC (University of Southern California) that has hosted the GGJ every year.
We'll have a kickoff event where we'll introduce the theme. We will host the event in the School of Cinematic Arts (SCA).
Note: If you've never made a game before, we have a page listing development tools that you can refer to. The all those tools are free to use and are very well-adapted for the Global Game Jam.
Required: Please use the form below to sign up for the event. You are required to sign up here to be able to partake in the event.

Our last meeting was a great success! Tons of people came to hear from a lot of the selected pitches for the 491 - Advanced Game Project class. You'll soon be able to find the pictures of all the attendees!
If you could not attend our meeting on Friday, you can find the pitches on our 491 - Advanced Game Project page! There you'll find what each team is looking for, as well as contact info, and synopsis for each project.
Also, the theme for this Friday's Game Blitz (our 2 hour jam) will be Silent films. Join us (SCA 203, 2:30pm), relax and create! |

MEGA's decided to hold a 2 hour game jams (which we call Game Blitzes) every Friday from 3pm to 5pm, which is right before our weekly meetings.
These Blitzes are great for developing an idea, getting the creative juices flowing, spending some time working on an existing project, meeting other developers, developing a library. They are generally a great way to work in an environment full of people that are working on games!
We've just had our first Game Blitz! It was a great success, 3 games were created ! You can check these games out on our Game Blitz page.

Hey everyone!
The theme for the hackathon has just been announced! Here it is: "If there is such a thing as too much power, I have not yet discovered it." Additionally, you must use at least one of these verbs: The theme actually comes from this Magic: the Gathering card. The verbs are totally up to creative interpretation, in fact we highly encourage it. The deadline for submitting the game is Sunday April 3rd at 1:30 pm. Additionally, by this Sunday at 8pm, you must submit a document detailing the name of the game, as well as the names of all your teammates, and the chosen development platform. Please email this to megausc@usc.edu with the subject being " Hackathon Team".
Some rules to remember: - No teams larger than 6 people
- No students from other schools. Alumni can be on teams but are NOT eligible for any prizes.
- Your game will be judged relative to the tools you use. Be truthful about what is yours, and what has already been made. These judges don't get fooled easily.
- Have fun. What you make in these ten days could inspire bigger and better projects in the future!
Happy hacking!

I've added a Development tools page as well as the 2011 Game Hackathon page to the site.
The 2011 Game Hackathon is starting this friday. You'll find all the information you need about the event on that page.
The development tools page is a way to help newcomers to game development or new USC students know more about what choices are out there for developing games. |

The site has been somewhat left on the side since last year, but no more! From now on the site will be updated regularly with information about events, meetings, and competitions ! I'll start with information about this year's Game Hack-a-thon!
Game Hack-a-thon!
Teams of up to 6 people are tasked with creating a video game in 10-days. They can create their game using whatever tools they want and they can make it for any platform. That game is then shown to industry judges who will decide winners based on a number of categories (such as best overall, best art, and best Audio). Last year we had judges from companies like Naughty Dog and thatgamecompany, this year will be even better!!
The new MEGA Board
Slightly old news, but on February 25th, MEGA held its annual board elections. Next year's board members are as follows: - President: Travis McLain
- Vice-president: Chris Oslund
- Treasurer: Dru Erridge
- Industry Liaison: Asher Vollmer
- Webmaster: Edouard Lorenceau
- University Liaison: Raghav Bashyal
- Secretary: Anoop Kamboj
All the new board members are board-elect until next semester. This lets them learn the ropes from the current board and makes for a smooth transfer of knowledge from now until the end of the semester. |

This past Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting InstantAction as they gave MEGA members an opportunity to earn a design credit and money. Looking forward, we've got a board game jam, possible guest speakers, and a gaming party to close out the semester. Check out the site for further details! |

Hey All,
This is Charlie Silver, the new Webmaster for MEGA. I've updated the site to reflect past events that MEGA has run (including games from the Game Hackathon 2009 and Global Game Jam '10) as well as updated contact information for all current board members in MEGA.
Just as a FYI, when events (or special Friday meetings) are sent out via the Facebook group they will also be simultaneously updated here. So, please check out the website if you're not sure what's happening for a given week.
Hope to see you at MEGA!
Best,
Charlie Silver
